Dick Whittington and his Musical Cat – Tenbury Wells

Dick Whittington and his Musical Cat, Regal, Tenbury Wells

5/5

This is a proper traditional Pantomime and it’s back in town.

All the bells and whistles are here. A vibrant set is enhanced by ingenious imagery and magical lighting as it seamlessly moves between scenes.

Convincing and typically flamboyant characters are supported by fabulous, lavish costumes worthy of the West End and played by an ensemble of faultless principals.

Amazing vocals and charming choreography are performed by this accomplished cast.

The script is full of quick-fire gags – with the expected cruel jibes at neighbouring communities – which were plentiful and enthusiastically appreciated! Meanwhile the alliterative monologues by the Dame are to marvel at and ingenious and slick slapstick routines are performed to perfection.

Well done, also, to a polished chorus in support. An integral and essential asset to the show.

The Regal pantomimes are unique, enhanced enormously by original compositions by Richard Fox, Musical Director.

Not wishing to undermine any performance but star of the show was Ellie Squires as Garbage: vocals, movement, empathy in a supporting role – the complete package.

This is an Inspired show directed with great imagination by Chris Garner. His Pantomimes get better by the year.

Have seen all 11 pantos and this is the best yet.
