Over the last few Years Campus West have proved you don’t need star names and big effects to put on a spectacular pantomime, and this years offering is no exception.
Once again written by the great writing duo of JoJo Pantomimes – Jonas Cemm (who also directs) and Joe Sargent (who also plays Dandini), the show starts as it means to go on, full of energy and sparkle, and there are some very clever moments in a script which never misses a beat. The new take on the ghost scene was particularly clever, as was the romantic moment between the Prince and Cinderella in the woods, although I won’t give away anything here, you will have to go and see it for yourself.
The ensemble of 6 dancers (which is a rare sight these days) work extremely hard dancing their way through some very energetic choreography, accompanied by a live band led by Kris Rawlinson. They are joined by 2 teams of junior dancers who were just as sharp. The energy on show realy was something else.
Kieran Parrot returns as Buttons, and it is easy to see why he is so popular, with just the right amount of cheekiness, and a great voice to boot. Also returning this year are Thomas Cove and Lawrence Harp as the ugly sisters Stella and Peroni. They prove to be a great pairing, and have the audience (and cast) in stitches throughout.
Regulars to a Campus West panto expect the ’12 days of Christmas’ routine, and they were not disappointed, although if you sit anywhere near the end of a row, I suggest you take a brolly!
The only low point in the evening was when it all came to an end, although the audience went a way with a huge smile on their face. It really was a panto on full throttle.
Cinderella runs at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City until 4th of January 2026.
