5/5
Watching Cinderella at the Princes Theatre in Clacton was a delight. I went there last year to watch their production of Jack and the Beanstalk and after that I knew I’d discovered something special. The jokes were unique and hilarious and even when something went slightly wrong on stage, they worked it into the performance and made it even more funny.
The cast was made up of Britain’s Got Talent’s George Sampson as the Prince and Graeme Matthews as Buttons, “Comin Atcha” Cleopatra as a Fairy in training, the amazing Dame Jamie Riding as the Stepmother, Astounding new talent Amy Sue as Cinderella and of course the Wicked Stepsisters Katherine Victoria Green and Amy Ambrose. I was lucky enough to meet the cast after the performance as well and they are some of the nicest people I have ever met.
There’s something magical about this cast coming together and creating 3 hours of escapism for the audience. I’ve been to a lot of Pantomimes in the past, but I have to say that the ones I’ve seen at the Princes Theatre are by far the best I have seen. They had a clear plotline, a range of magnificent original songs and a lot of audience participation. I can genuinely say that there wasn’t a single second where I was bored. If I lived nearer to the Theatre, I would have definitely gone back to see it multiple times.
The stage design was also a thing of wonder. I won’t give away too much but the scene with Cinderella’s carriage is astounding. Overall if I was rating this production out of 10, it’d be a solid 10 for me.
The past few years have been tough for all of us but when I went to see Cinderella this year, I felt happiness I haven’t felt in a very long time. Thank you to everyone at the Princes Theatre, you made me feel like a child again and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
