Plenty of treasure on this island!
Halftail productions is a new company and this is their first panto offering, and there was plenty to like. Taking a risk on a title not often performed has really paid off, and the audience were really enjoying themselves.
Written and directed by Suzanne Lane, there were plenty of jokes which the cast delivered with great energy. Being the opening night there were the inevitable technical glitches, but that didn’t detract from the energy shown on stage. One particularly enjoyable moment was the version of ‘If I were not upon the Stage’. Here, Suzanne managed not only to include those doing the main actions, but also a nice twist with two of the pirates, but you will have to go and watch to see what I mean. There was also an hilarious tribute to Wham in ‘Club Treasure Island’.
The young dancers didn’t let the side down either, with some great choreography and some brilliant little cameos, with a little gorilla stealing the scene at one point to hilarious effect.
All in all a great night out, and as the cast relax into their roles it will only get better, although they have already set the bar quite high.
